On August 17, 2015, Angela Grimes, 25 of Dover, DE, appeared in the Circuit Court for Queen Anne’s County and entered a guilty plea to Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping. On October 20, 2015 Ms. Grimes was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with ten and a half years of that sentence being suspended. She will serve 18 months at the Queen Anne’s County Detention Center and upon her release will be placed on 5 years of supervised probation. Ms. Grimes also received an additional 18 month sentence to be served at the Queen Anne’s County Detention Center for violating probation in a previous case. Her involvement in this kidnapping violated the conditions of her probation in a previous case. Her sentence for the probation violation will begin once she has completed her sentence in the kidnapping case.
The guilty plea entered by Grimes was the result of a police investigation into a February 28, 2015 incident in which Ms. Grimes, along with three other individuals, arranged to meet the victim at the Royal Farms, located at Rt. 213 and Rt. 544, in Chestertown in order to conduct a drug transaction. During the transaction, the victim was assaulted and forced into a vehicle. The victim was bound with duct tape and beaten repeatedly by two co-defendants that were inside the vehicle. Ms. Grimes was the driver of the vehicle during the kidnapping. The victim was driven to various locations before escaping from the vehicle and notifying police.
Ms. Grimes was given consideration in her sentencing for her cooperation with law enforcement during the investigation of the kidnapping.
This case was prosecuted by Christine Dulla Rickard, Deputy State’s Attorney.
