On February 4, 2025, Steven P. Debra, aged 42, of Stevensville, Maryland, was sentenced to 10 years to the Division of Correction with all after 61 days time served suspended, for his conviction for second degree assault. Deba was also sentenced to thirty months of supervised probation, ordered to have a mental health evaluation and complete any recommended treatment, to abstain from alcohol and drugs and to have no contact with the victim. Deba pled guilty before the Honorable Lynn Knight, Circuit Court Judge for Queen Anne’s County. The case was prosecuted by Lance G. Richardson, State’s Attorney for Queen Anne’s County. Mr. Deba’s conviction was based upon his actions on September 10, 2024, in Stevensville, Maryland. The allegations specifically alleged that the victim, who was an adult female, was placed into a wrestling chokehold by Mr. Deba. The victim then proceeded to grab her pepper spray and sprayed Mr. Deba in the face. Deba then retreated but later attempted to re-eneter the victim’s bedroom when he was subsequently pepper sprayed in the face a second time, after which she called 911. Deputy Armiger responded and found Deba to be intoxicated. Deba admitted to consuming six Natty Daddies which is a large Natural Light beer, specifically a 25 oz can with a higher alcohol content (8% ABV) compared to the standard Natural Light. Deba stated the argument with the female victim stemmed from his drinking and his failure to feed the couple’s cats. Deba also claimed that the couple was simply wrestling and that he didn’t intend to injure her. The victim did not wish for Deba to serve any additional jail time but she did want him to be ordered to get mental health and alcohol treatment and counseling, both of which were ordered by the court as special conditions of probation. Deba, in his right of allocution or right to speak in mitigation of his actions, stated he was going to embrace sobriety and attend AA Meetings. He also plans to relocate to Baltimore City where he will be supervised on probation. Richardson also thanked and praised the excellent investigation and actions that day by DFC. Armiger of the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office. The Office of the Public Defender represented Mr. Deba.
