In August 2018 the Queen Anne’s County State’s Attorney received a report from Dr. John Arrabal, a local medical practitioner with an office in Queen Anne’s County, concerning a former office manager of his business who had stolen money from the office during her employment.
A (12) month investigation was conducted by the Office of the State’s Attorney concerning several different methods of theft from Dr. Arrabal at that hands of the former employee, Lisa Skeens, also known as Lisa Gyarmati, during the period of March 2016 through June 2018. The investigation revealed that on numerous occasions Skeens used the office credit card to make purchases for personal items, had given herself unauthorized payroll increases, and stole a large volume of cash payments that were made to the office by patients of Dr. Arrabal for services rendered.
Skeens was formally charged on August 27, 2019 in the Circuit Court for Queen Anne’s County with multiple counts of theft and theft schemes under $100,000.00, as well as embezzlement. On December 20, 2019 Skeens entered an Alford guilty plea in the Circuit Court to embezzlement. She was subsequently sentenced to 5 years of incarceration, with 4 years and3 months of that sentence suspended. Gyarmati will serve 9 months of active incarceration at the Queen Anne’s County Detention Center. Upon her release she will be on 36 months of supervised probation.
