In December of 2023, James Wade Harvey, a Centreville man, entered pleas of guilty to two counts of Causing Abuse to a Child. On March 8, 2024, Mr. Harvey was sentenced by Hon. C. Lynn Knight, Queen Anne’s County Circuit Court Judge, to two 15-year sentences, each of them suspended as to all but ten years to serve, consecutive (20 years total of active incarceration and ten years suspended). Upon his release from incarceration, he will be on five years of supervised probation. Mr. Harvey will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from incarceration.
Mr. Harvey was arrested on August 8, 2023 after an investigation by the Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff, led by Det. D. Sullivan of the Criminal Investigations Unit. The investigation revealed that the Defendant had sexually molested a child between 1999 and 2001 here in Queen Anne’s County. At time of the offenses, Mr. Harvey was employed as a Maryland State Trooper.
