On April 12, 2019, after a contested trial in the Circuit Court, a jury found Timothy Aaron Covington (55 Village Circle in Denton) guilty of Resisting Arrest. The finding stems from an incident that occurred on September 6, 2018 in the Queen Anne’s County District Court Multi Complex Building.  On that date, Mr. Covington was asked to leave the District Court building in Centreville, after using profanity and refusing to comply with screening procedures.  After refusing to leave, the District Court bailiffs attempted to place Mr. Covington under arrest.  At that time, Mr. Covington resisted the arrest, resulting in a physical altercation at the rear entrance of the building.  Following his conviction a sentencing date was set for June 11, 2019. Mr. Covington was subsequently sentenced to serve (3) three years to the Division of Corrections.

Mr. Covington’s record is extensive and consists of two Natural Resources Convictions: 2002 Loaded Weapon in Vehicle, Hunt Deer from Vehicle, Casting Rays, Hunt without Safety Zone, and Hunt Private Property without Permit and a 2004 Hunt Game Manual. His traffic records consists of six total serious traffic convictions: Driving while Suspended from 2003, 2004, and 2005, Driving while Uninsured in 2004, Driving while Revoked in 2006, and a 2007  Operate Off-Road Vehicle/Private Property.  Mr. Covington’s criminal record consists of four separate convictions for Second Degree Assault from 2006, two from 2008, 2012, and 2013, two convictions for Reckless Endangerment from 2008 and 2011, Disorderly Conduct in 2004, Second Degree Escape in 2012, and a prior Resist Arrest in 2003.

Mr. Covington began the trail represented by an attorney.  However, after Deputy State’s Attorney Christine Dulla-Rickard had given her opening statement Mr. Covington informed the Court that he was firing his attorney effective immediately and wished to represent himself for the remainder of the trial. The trial then proceeded with Mr. Covington acting as his own attorney.
